This powerpoint presentation outlines information on the need for increased public knowledge and awareness of the growing demand for water while the supply remainsthe same. Public education on this subject is a critical component. The Niagara Children's Water Festival grew out of this need for early awareness and education that wouldresult in long-term social, economic and environmentalbenefits. The program includes: hands-on, interactive activity centers;unique Niagara watershed messaging; and, isdirectly linked to Ontario curriculum. Examples are provided along with teacher feedback testimonials. To justify the cost ofhosting the Niagara Children's Water Festival, a survey was conducted to address the following questions:are the children retaining what they learned;what are their water use habits and attitudes; and,are they telling their families about what they learned? Information regarding the survey is provided and is translated into determining the value of the festival. Potential water savings statistics are given along with benefits of the festival that include: increased public awareness of water conservation;increased job satisfaction for government and industryemployees volunteering at the festival; and, promotion of water industry to high school volunteers.
