This powerpoint pesentation outlines how the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, manages risk through analysis and standardization with its water main management framework. In 2006, the city began introducing the tools needed to optimize the collection, management, and use of information in making and prioritizing decisions for water distribution system assets. The primary objectives were to:develop and implement analytical processes; and,integrate with existing data collection practices and information systems. The planning framework needed to provide a consistent means of categorizing and evaluating planning and decision making activities for all of Hamilton's Public Works infrastructure assets, and provide a frame of reference and support in:operational review and assessment;process improvement and change management;the planning and introduction of standards and support tools; and,technology introduction and integration. A diagram is provided of the infrastructure planning cycle, and information is provided on the following topics: risk based planning and decision making; proof of concept; criticality model development; consequences of failure; multi-criteria weighted model; water main assessment; probability of failure; predictive modeling - asset level; and, decision modeling that includes probability and consequences.
