Full Description

This powerpoint presentation presents a study to document the long-term effects ofdisinfectant changes on distributionsystem water quality. A literature search was done, and 26 utilities in 15 states, Washington, D.C., and British Columbia were surveyed on changes in disinfection practices including: chlorine to chloramines; chlorine to ozone;chlorine to chlorine dioxide;chlorine to ultraviolet (UV); and, adding booster chlorination. The presentation provides information on the impact that each of these disinfection practices has on water quality, disinfection byproducts, microbes, corrosion, and aesthetics. Potential applications include: evaluating current changes;making operational adjustments;considering future changes;designing future changes; and, diagnosing water quality problems.
