This powerpoint presentation outlines a study to develop a systematic approach tocontrolling algae growth within watertreatment plants. The approach included:a literature review focusing on algae types and factors influencing algal growth;case studies involving 18 plants across the U.S.;an online survey of 200 utilities asking 53 questions ontreatment train, algae issues within the treatment plant, types of algae identified,algae mitigation strategies, andsuccessful strategies used; eight plants were sampled foralgae characterization in pre-sedimentationbasins,flocculation basins,sedimentation basins, andfilters; and,optimal strategies for mitigating algae and costs. Algal control strategies included:Chemical Strategies;Operational Strategies;Design Strategies; and, Other Technologies.
