Full Description

This powerpoint presentation outlines a national atrazine occurrence survey conducted in 2003 and 2004 to gain a better understanding of atrazine short-term occurrence and variability. Key findings from the project include: many drinking water treatment plants had alreadyinstalled treatment (e.g., granular activated carbon [GAC] or powdered activated carbon [PAC]) specifically foratrazine control and management, which implies thatutilities are bearing the burden of cost foratrazine removal; and, theproject was unable to evaluate the cost of atrazinemanagement/treatment on drinking water treatmentplants. The presentation also presents a national Agricultural Contamination CostSurvey todetermine the costsutilities were payingfor agriculturalcontamination from:Atrazine;Acetochlor;Nitrate;Nutrients.Primary survey components included:Demographics: system type, population served, etc.; and, agricultural contamination. Survey results presented include: demographics; agricultural contamination; treatment; and, cost summary.
