Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on a treatment issue at the Village of West Dundee Water Treatment. Two treatment plants were involved. The existing Angle Tarn Plant that uses: Ion Exchange - 1.67 MGD; Softening and Barium Removal;Cationic, NaCl regeneration; and, four vessels. The new Randall Oaks plant is still under construction and uses: the same design/aquifer; Ion Exchange - 1.37 MGD; Softening and Barium Removal; and,Cationic, NaCl regeneration. The treatment issue at theAngle Tarn Plant consisted of: no residuals problem;regenerant waste discharged to brine pit and metered to sanitary sewer; 200 mg/l Barium; Regenerant Volume ~ 50,000 GPD;Fox River WRD North WWTP - 10 MGD; and,Pilot Location. There was a residuals problem at theRandall Oaks Plant that consisted of:waste discharged to East Dundee WWTP;same Barium loading expected;smaller plant - 0.4 MGD (Low flow);unable to meet NPDES permit;Barium 6 mg/L required; and, Full Scale Location. Topics covered include: raw water quality; process description; equipment guidelines; CONTRAFAST Equipment Diagram; CONTRAFAST Cutaway view; and, West Dundee Pilot Layout. Results are presented of the following topics: pilot operation; operating parameters; chemical treatment; barium removal; treated water quality; sludge characteristics; sludge dewatering trial; and, radium results.
