Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a comparison between dual purpose ultraviolet (UV) reactors and UV advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Mechanisms of MIB and Geosminreduction are addressed, along with factors that affectUV AOP performance, system comparisons, and design considerations. Summary findings of the study include: UV disinfection is a proven and widelyused technology for disinfection;recent advances have allowed UVreactors to operate in "disinfection mode"or in "AOP mode";UV AOPs are a promising technology fortaste and odor reduction as well as otheremerging contaminants; UV AOP systems have unique designconsiderations compared to UVdisinfection systems;higher doses are needed;peroxide is needed for removal of somecontaminants; larger footprint and power requirements; and, dual purpose operation may provide costsavings compared to GAC and ozone.
