Full Description

This slide presentation outlines a study on utilizing pretreatment to reduce costs and improve performance of microfiltration/ultrafiltration membrane processes. Topics covered include: background information on membrane system design/operation; membrane optimization; cost considerations; and, keys to optimizing pretreatment. Three case studies are outlined and include: Westminster NWTF;City of Thornton, Columbine WTP; and,Town of Erie, Lynn R. Morgan WTF. Conclusions were that:pretreatment can providesignificantly improved membraneperformance;operational flexibility for changingwater quality and future regulations;optimization of pretreatment iscritical!; and, cost of pretreatment may be offsetby reduced membrane costs.
