This slide presentation outlines a case study at the Manitowoc (Wisconsin) Public Utilities (MPU) concerning the design of two large-scale membrane treatment plants. The presentation outline includes: Background and History;Existing Membrane Facility at MPU;New Membrane Facility; and,Improvements Over Past Facilities. Conclusions indicate that:new 25 mgd submerged MF plant in Manitowoc willprovide existing and projected water needs for newlyformed Central Brown County Water Authority;existing microfiltration (MF) facility state-of-the-art in 1999, breakingnew ground in terms of cost and schedule;rapid changes in industry over last 7 years haveallowed for drastic improvements in cost, spacerequirements, and operability at new facility; and,as the industry continues to develop it provides newopportunities for utilities considering the use ofmembrane technologies.
