This slide presentation outlines a project by the City of El Mirage, Arizona, to use integrated resource planning (IRP) to meet increased water demand of population growth. Specific challenges included: population tripled in 3 years;fast growth stressed water and wastewaterinfrastructure;small town government/utility was not ready;shortage of water;inadequate wastewater treatment anddisposal system;regulatory pressure - NOV, Fines, etc.; and,citizenry pressure - provide reliable servicesto new residents. Topics outlined include: water and wastewater systems; city actions; water supply planning; recommended water system improvement; emergency well project; fast track program; and, water supply sources to meet immediate summer demand. Project approach included: well assessment, initial testing; well selection, final testing and development recommendations; improvement requirements; and, program management involving permitting, design, construction, start-up, and approval.
