This presentation provides an update on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) efforts to evaluate and implement therecommendations for contaminants for the next and future Contaminant Candidate Lists (CCLs). They include:defining a set of microorganisms and chemicals as a universe of potential CCLcontaminants;identifying methods to screen this universe to a set of contaminants transmitted indrinking water for further scrutiny (pre-CCL);developing a transparent process to identify which pre-CCL contaminants shouldbe considered for the next and future CCLs;expanding opportunities for public participation in the CCL process; and,evaluating new analytical methods, and technological advances that may beconsidered for future CCLs to identify emerging contaminants.
