Full Description

The Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) is developing an Enhanced WaterQuality Monitoring Plan (Enhanced Monitoring Plan) to optimize monitoring coveragefor regulatory compliance and system protection. Planning criteria are developed toensure uniformity of the sampling stations over the entire distribution system andpopulation, to cover developing and remote service areas, and to provide a traceablerelationship to each water supply source and the residence time for all seasonal operatingconditions. The Enhanced Monitoring Plan promotes the use of water quality data to support facilityplanning and operational efforts for water quality enhancement. Integration of the waterquality monitoring data with the results from a combined hydraulic and water qualitymodel, and with other information captured in the geographic information system (GIS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, providessignificant and practical benefits. These benefits include improved water quality modelcalibration, timely emergency response to potential water quality threats, and intelligentfeedback for future facility planning. The Enhanced Monitoring Plan is described withexamples that illustrate the resulting benefits. Includes table, figures.
