The occurrence of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in water has become a major concern for watersuppliers for the last 10 years. However, little is known about their persistence after a contamination ofthe distribution system. The general objective of this study was to conduct pilot experiments to studyCryptosporidium persistence in controlled conditions, close to those encountered in networks. Theimpact of hydraulics on oocyst deposition and detachment was investigated and a modeling approachhas been used to characterize key parameters influencing these phenomena. It was concluded that thebiofilm plays a significant role in Cryptosporidium persistence in water systems, influencing bothdeposition and detachment phenomena.
