Full Description

As a part of a project funded by the AWWA Research Foundation (AwwaRF) ozoneassisted biological (OAB) filtration was evaluated for its effectiveness on biodegradationof MIB/G. Pilot testing of OAB was performed at the City of Chandler WTP for sixmonths (October 2002-February 2003). This paper presents the pilot study findings of thisresearch project. To address the research goal of biological degradation of MIB/G, an orthogonalexperimental design was developed and tested. The primary objectives of thepilot was first to identify effective filter design for the taste and odor (T and,at different filter loading rates (and EBCTs).In orthogonal matrix one variable was altered one at a time from the baseline condition(BL). The objectives of the orthogonal matrix of experiments are to address:optimal ozone dose;influent MIB/Geosmin concentrations;effect of pH; and, effect of pretreatment with and without ozone. Includes 7 references, table, figures.
