This extended abstract discusses how, in 2001, the State of Georgia created the Metropolitan North Georgia WaterPlanning District, consisting of 16 counties surrounding Atlanta, and put the region onthe fast track to develop long-term water conservation plans. In order to meet thisrequirement, water demands and an aggressive conservation program were developed forthe area to the year 2030.
