1.1 Scope

This standard describes nine coating systems designed to protect the exteriorsurfaces of steel pipelines and the associated fittings used by the water supplyindustry in aboveground locations. The coating systems described may not performor cost the same, but they are presented so that the appropriate coating system can beselected for the site-specific project requirements.

1.1.1 Conditions not covered in this standard. The coating systems describedin this standard are not intended for underground applications or immersion service,nor are they intended for external pipe surfaces that will be in contact with potablewater.

1.1.2 Maximum temperatures. The maximum service temperature of thecoating systems listed in this standard is based on the maximum service temperatureof potable water. Consult the coating manufacturer for conditions and limitations.
