This paper discusses international issues/needs related to water loss reduction. These include: different standards for water loss calculations; misleading performance indicators; undervaluing of leakage and overflows; inadequate investment in infrastructure maintenance; leakage on private pipeworks; and, non recognition of pressure management options. An international standard water audit is outlined.
