This paper discusses a database built from long-term (50+ years) data on urbanwater production in California, home to one of every eight residents in theUnited States. It allows analysis of trends in urban water production andevaluation of climate, water supply availability, pricing, or socioeconomiceffects on water production. Researchers can also use the data to evaluatereasons for differences in per-capita water production among neighboring watersystems or to evaluate the effects of hydrologic conditions such as droughts thattranscend a single geographic region.
