Over 55,000 recorded particle counts, from February 21-27, 2000, taken atthe Putnam Station Filter Plant in Birmingham, Alabama, provided the foundationfor a study of filter particle removal efficiency. Five anthracite/sand filtersof identical construction containing filter media differing in age by one yearwere found to exhibit significantly different particle removal efficiencies.
