Full Description

This research focused on identifying operational strategies for maximizingCryptosporidium removal by filters. Pilot-scale studies were performed toevaluate the oocyst removal capacity of a dual-media filter during optimizedoperating conditions, late turbidity and particle breakthrough, early turbidityand particle breakthrough, and end-of-run operation. The experiments includedsome investigation of the mechanistic behavior of oocysts that pass throughfilters during end-of-run and breakthrough conditions. Polystyrene microsphereswere also evaluated as surrogates for removal of Cryptosporidium oocysts duringtreatment optimization studies. Includes 14 references, figures.
