Full Description

Researchers and water utilities over the past decade have collected samples forGiardia and Cryptosporidium analysis under a wide scenario of sampling schedulesthat include the Information Collection Rule-mandated regular sampling by largerutilities. However, there has not been a systematic study of sample collectiondesigns to ensure that such sampling programs are collecting data representativeof the watershed. This project was designed to collect a robust set of data to:evaluate the temporal variability of pathogens in six highly characterized sourcewaters, and examine the factors that most strongly affect this variability for arange of watershed conditions; provide a detailed evaluation of the two mostpromising methods for enumerating Cryptosporidium and develop a database forviable and infectious oocysts; and, evaluate relationships between protozoa andparameters such as total and fecal coliforms, E. coli, Clostridium perfringens, hardness, pH, turbidity, temperature, flow rate, and other site-specificparameters. Includes 8 references, tables, figures.
