The primary objective of this investigation was to examine the biodegradation of methylglyoxal in biologically active filters. The effect of pyruvate, formed during methylglyoxal utilization, on biodegradable organic matter (BOM) removal performance was examined under various conditions. The operating conditions for the relevant portions of these two experiments are summarized. Includes references, tables, figures.
