This paper reviews a joint program between North West Water Limited and Bechtel Water Technology Limited to build 19 dissolved air flotation (DAF) plants, to satisfy the European Union Legislation on drinking water standards. It discusses the variations in process chemistry, plant design and their significance in meeting quality objectives in addition to the impact upon capital and operational costs. General recommendations for process design and operation resulting from this research are given.
