The Irvine Ranch Water District is investigating the use of a colored groundwater source to supplement its current supplies for future use. A significant concern is funding. This paper describes the Orange County Basin, the colored aquifer in question, IRWD's plans for using the colored water, cost of product water versus cost of imported water, raw water quality and treatment challenges, pilot plant, project budget, and project schedule.
