Full Description

This paper describes a case study of sliplining to repair a 66-inch transmission pipeline. The pipeline was made predominantly of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe with welded steel pipe for fittings and in casings under freeway crossings. Corrosion of the prestressing wires caused a failure of the pipeline. The major challenge of the project was to minimize surface disruption, yet not excessively reduce the pipe diameter and capacity, by keeping the number of pits to a minimum and by locating them in the least sensitive areas. Sliplining the pipe with welded steel pipe was selected. This paper details the process of selection, interior surveys, and sliplining. Difficulties with connections and nozzles were overcome with design specifications. A public information program lets local governments and residents know about the project.
