This paper discusses the current drinking water regulations affecting small systems. The 1986 Amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act greatly affected the way water utilities monitor and treat their water. Systems serving fewer than 3,000 people were required to treat their water, often for the first time. A listing is presented of the Rules promulgated since 1986 that currently affect public water systems.
