This paper discusses the reasons for implementation of a network meter reading (NMR) system, explains the methodology and technology behind that implementation, analyzes the costs and benefits of the system, and examines how to further capitalize on this technology in the future. The paper closes with a discussion of a particular value-added service made possible by the NMR system, a wireless energy management tool.
