The fan efficiency grade (FEG) is an energy metric thatdescribes the quality of energy transformation of a fan. TheFEG metric is designed for establishing minimum fan energyefficiency requirements by regulatory bodies, code agenciesand advocacy groups. The metric offers a simple meansto identify the level of energy transformation in ducted airsystems.

This document provides an overview of issues associatedwith fan energy consumption and offers guidance for usingthe FEG in codes, standards and regulations as a means toincrease the use of energy efficient fans.
